HOSMAC presents

Hospital is one of the most complexly engineered buildings. It needs to answer needs of a wide range of users and efficiency/functionality of multiple departments. The energy-guzzling structure needs a highly specific MEP design that supports patients’ health and safety, keeps maintenance costs in check as well as is considerate of aesthetics. As the healthcare field continues to evolve at an exponential rate, accommodating technological advances as well keeping abreast with building techniques becomes crucial. Hence, strategic hospital planning not only assists in structural decisions but also financial aspects of running the capital-intensive-building.

Through four Masterclasses of two hours each, participants will get insight into:

Principles of Architectural Design

Engineering Design

Operation Theatre Complex Planning

Interior Design

Importance of cost-effectiveness in design and relevance to COVID-19 will be covered for all topics.

  • Hospital Promoters
  • Operational Managers in Hospital
  • Hospital Planners
  • Architects
  • Engineers
  • Architecture Students
  • Engineering Students
  • Hospital Management Students

Participants will receive an e-certificate from HOSMAC for their participation and completion of 8 hours of the Masterclass.

  • Masterclass 1 (Friday, 9 October 2020, 2 - 4 PM)
    Fundamentals of Healthcare Architecture
    • A hospital comprises of threecategories of accommodation— clinical services, clinical support services and general support services. The program of a healthcare facility is defined by the needs of the clinical departments, requirements and adjacencies which will enable efficient operation of the hospital. Participants will gain insight on building orientation, phasing and massing; functional and space programming; creation of structural grids; fixed elements' planning; stacking of departments and service floor concept; planning of in-patient housing system; location of utilities and importance of REVIT in design development
  • Masterclass 2 (Friday, 9 October 2020, 4.30 - 6.30 PM)
    Hospital MEP Engineering Simplified
    • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design form the nerves of a building; and in case of a hospital, where health and safety of users are of prime concerns, engineering needs a very specific approach. The facility needs a MEP design that ensures the building is breathing 24/7, and yet keeps operational costs in check. Through this session, participants will gain basics of MEP design standards and parameters that is cost-effective, energy-efficient and low on maintenance.
  • Masterclass 3 (Saturday, 10 October 2020, 2 - 4 PM)
    Nuances of Operation Theatre Planning
    • An operating room is the soul of a surgery suite; and a surgery suite is the heart of a modern surgical hospital. In this session, we traverse through the evolution of the rudimentary Operating Theatre into the quintessential, modern Operating Room. On this journey, we shall stop by the ‘principles of OT design’ and navigate through the ‘trends & practices’ as prevalent today. At the end of the ses-sion, you will be familiar with the standards governing a safe & user-centric design.
  • Masterclass 4 (Saturday, 10 October 2020, 4.30 - 6.30 PM)
    Cost-effective and Patient-centric Interior Design
    • People make judgments about the quality of care they receive based on the condition of the health care environment. A patient-centric space should reduce anxiety and stress, as well as make them feel comfortable and secure. The larger challenge is keeping the spaces as attractive, functional and hospital-grade clean 10 years down the road. In this session, one will learn selection of right mate-rials which are maintenance free, robust, rigid, non-infectious etc. out of variety of material bouquet available in the market without compromising aesthetics and decor.
