SUBURBS
GET HOSPITAL GIFT

At first people looked at the hospital, built to International standards and thought it was meant for employees of Godrej only. Today they know better.
The background to the hospital is a heartwarming and reassuring
as the establishment itself. In 1984, Godrej Memorial Trust
was set up as a voluntary, non profit, non-religious, non
sectarian, non-political public charitable entity. The Trust
provides valuable medical services, from its clinic at New
Delhi, since inception.
The Godrej Memorial Hospital is multi-speciality, state-of-the-tech
hospital with several unique features. First is its location,
in the lovely green belt adjoining the Eastern Express Highway
and Vikhroli Railway station. This instantly provides easy
access to Vikhroli, Powai, Kanjur marg, Bhandup, as well as
several other central sub urbs.
According to the CEO, Dr.A.M.Joglekar, “The Godrej Memorial
Hospital is need based. So how does this translate on ground?
“In several ways”, says Dr. Joglekar, for instance
“we don’t insist on deposits when patients are
brought in for emergency services, we allow them to pay later.
The hospital provides a state of the art ambulance, for attending
to serious accidents, or acute medical conditions like heart
attacks, strokes, ect, within reasonable distance, free of
cost in other words we are there when patients need us most.
So in a place like Mumbai, don’t people take advantage
of these offers?
“Acctually no”, says Dr.Joglekar. “ It has
been our experience that trusting patients is the right thing
to do. As for the ambulance, we have had patient’s relatives
turning up days after they have used the services to pay in
full. Whilst hospital bills are also usually cleared completely
prior to discharge. We are part of the community here and
the community has begun to feel it owns us. The benefit cuts
both ways in trust and co-operation. We also give opportunity
to qualified professionals, who their talents to bloom.
The Institute caters to one and all, is affordable and the
watchwords are rationality and ethics , says Trustee Mr.Percy
E Fouzdar, he goes on further to say “the purpose and
mission of the hospital is to offer quality services in various
disciplines and to provide meaningful health care for the
community at large.”
The facilities themselves are carefully graded for all the
classes, especially the middle class to avail of them.
As hospitals go, attending this one is actually a pleasant
experience. Part of the overall ambience of clam is contributed
by its horizontal spread, with its two storeys on around three
acres of land, a rarity in vertically growing.
Mumbai. Built to international standards with 130 beds, it
has terrace gardens, spacious rooms with sit outs, large waiting
areas and effective use of natural lighting.
